Arizona Teen Chapter of Seeds of Peace Announce Forum November 8
Starbucks Scottsdale Supports Peace Effort
September 16, 2003 – Scottsdale, AZ – The Arizona Teen Chapter of Seeds of Peace announced today a forum on November 8, 5 pm, where an Israeli and Palestinian teen will speak about the Seeds of Peace as part of the Fundraising effort. Starbucks Coffee located at Mountain View and Via Linda is donating refreshments for the non profit club’s bi-weekly meetings to organize this event.
The mission of the Arizona Teen Chapter of Seeds of Peace, a Desert Mountain High School club, is to raise awareness of the Seeds of Peace organization, (a non-profit, non-political organization dedicated to preparing teenagers from areas of conflict with the leadership skills required to promote coexistence and peace) and to raise funds to support the short and long term needs of Seeds of Peace and to promote an environment of dialogue between adult and youth Arab and Jewish American communities of Scottsdale/Phoenix and greater Arizona.
“Starbucks recognizes the relationship between its success and the strength and vitality of the communities where it operates,” says Jerry Vargas, store manager Starbucks Coffee. “Starbucks partners strive to be good neighbors and active contributors in the communities where they live and work. This is an integral part of the Starbucks culture.”

”
Amidst the ruin and wreckage of the past two years, one organization – embodying this philosophy – has shone through brightly. Seeds of Peace has not only survived the collapse of the formal peace process, it has grown as if energized by adversity…”
-Aaron Miller, President Seeds of Peace
“It is easy at your age to say, ‘Why didn’t the adults fix it? Why is this going to be our problem?’ I wish we could fix it before you become young leaders and young professionals and young workers and young parents. And we’re going to work hard to see if we can do it, but you have an obligation to prepare yourselves for that day when it becomes yours to do.”
-Colin Powell, Secretary Of State
Department Of State address 8/13/03 to the Seeds of Peace

About Arizona Teen Chapter of Seeds of Peace
The Arizona Teen Chapter was established Fall 2002 at Desert Mountain High School, Scottsdale, Arizona by a student and a teacher involved with tolerance activities. The club’s mission in its inaugural year was to raise enough money to send one teen from an area of conflict to the Maine camp. The club accomplished its goal. During 2003-04, they plan to increase their teen membership, coordinate and sponsor more fundraisers, raise the press awareness, expand the community awareness and attract internationally renowned speakers to speak about the Middle East and other conflict regions. The Arizona teens also hope to expand their chapter so that it is inclusive of adult supporters of the Seeds of Peace. For more information see www.azteensupportpeace.com.
