I have rust on the roof of my car!! Yes. Nearly 2 years old, and already rusting. I came back from my trip to New Zealand tofind what appeared to be a paint bubble that had ruptured, and exposed the metal. Since then it’s just gotten darker, and VW claimsit’s out of warranty, even though it should have a 12 year one!! Well, in all fairness technically the warranty says “preforation”, whichmeans if I want them to pay for it’s repair, I have to wait til it eats all the way through the roof, and/or the side panel (its on theseam of the two), and causes long term permanent damage and will take weeks to fix. Instead I’ve just put it in the shop myself and I’llfind out tomorrow how much it will be total. Also getting a few nicks and scratches touched up while it’s in there. I’ll post pics on this page when I get the bug back, of the new paint on the roof (hopefully it’ll look brand new!).     Hopefully VW will reimburse me after they see these pictures and get a good look at the rust.     Below are 2 pictures of the roof and the driver’s side A-pillar, after the repair by Gary Gray’s here in White Plains MD. I think they dida fabulous job and I’m very pleased with their work. They’re the same shop that did the white on the bumpers, and I liked that job too (even thoughthe white is chipping a bit now, not enough clear coat). The rust on the roof was stripped down and the spot repaited. They even touched up the otherscratches on the other side of the roof, and they are non existant now as well. I’m still trying to find a before picture of the A-pillar chip so youcan see the difference there. The rust area difference is just incredible. I’ve not got white roof gutter liners installed (also painted by this shop)and I’ll put a few pictures of that up in another section .
